About The Position
The Anesthesia Technician performs tasks and functions that support the efficient operations of the Anesthesia and Surgery departments, working closely with the Anesthesia department. The role involves maintaining anesthesia equipment and supplies, assisting with anesthesia procedures and procedural-area turnover, supporting departmental credentialing, training, quality improvement, and onboarding activities, and coordinating with internal departments, vendors, and educational partners. The position works in operating room suite conditions and may involve occasional predictable periods of high pressure due to trauma and other critical situations. It requires considerable mental concentration, lifting up to 35 pounds, nearly constant walking, and various movements including standing, turning, carrying, pushing, pulling, stooping, crouching, twisting, and reaching.
Requirements
- Minimum of one year of experience in a hospital setting.
- America Heart Association BLS certification required.
- Associate degree preferred.

Responsibilities
- Maintains inventory and orders anesthesia equipment and supplies in a cost-efficient manner.
- Coordinates ongoing anesthesia equipment maintenance.
- Gathers needed supplies and assists with peripheral nerve blocks, epidurals, intubations, coordination of repairs, drawing intra-operative labs, and remote anesthesia services.
- Assists with room turnover in procedural areas.
- Assists with departmental functions, including maintaining credentialing and CME files.
- Assists with scheduling and maintaining certification files for BLS, ACLS, PALS, and NRP.
- Assists with quality improvement as needed.
- Assists with onboarding new providers in the department.
- Serves as liaison between biomedical engineering, supplies and materials management, and vendors when needed.
- Monitors sterile field and timeout compliance with anesthesia procedures.
- Assists with anesthesia clinic duties when available.
- Serves as liaison between AHEC and the Anesthesia Department for anesthesia and medical students.
