About The Position

This is a cooperative education (co-op) position for a student looking to gain real-world experience in technical writing. The role involves learning the engineering design process and translating complex technical concepts into clear, user-friendly, and searchable documentation. The co-op will collaborate with engineers and designers, interview subject matter experts, and utilize visuals to enhance technical information. The primary goal is to write, edit, and maintain accurate technical documentation, contributing to a searchable knowledge base.

Requirements

• Junior or later student working toward a bachelor’s degree in English, Technical Communication or Business Communication with technical/technology experience OR working toward a bachelor’s degree in Engineering or Technology with English/Communication experience.
• Self-starter with a good work ethic and interested in learning and growing with the company.
• Strong written communication skills with the ability to clearly document technical or operational processes.

Nice To Haves

• Experience with technical writing and/or communication.
• Experience with a robotics team or other hands-on engineering.

Responsibilities

• Learn from an experienced mentor to understand the engineering design process, with an emphasis on turning complex technical concepts into clear, easy-to-use, and searchable documentation.
• Collaborate with engineers and designers to understand how design decisions are made and how those decisions affect other requirements and systems.
• Organize, update, and help build a searchable Zendesk knowledge base using existing documentation and resources.
• Interview subject matter experts, engineers, and product designers to gather accurate technical details and gain a clear understanding of how products work.
• Use visuals such as diagrams, charts, screenshots, and videos to help users better understand technical information.
• Write, edit, and maintain clear, accurate, and well-organized technical documentation.
