About The Position

This cooperative education (co-op) position offers a student the opportunity to learn from an experienced mentor and gain real-world experience in technical writing. The role focuses on transforming complex technical concepts into clear, user-friendly, and searchable documentation. The co-op will collaborate with engineers and designers, interview subject matter experts, and utilize visuals to enhance technical information. A key aspect of the role involves organizing and building a searchable knowledge base using Zendesk.

Requirements

  • Junior or later student working toward a bachelor’s degree in English, Technical Communication, or Business Communication with technical/technology experience.
  • OR working toward a bachelor’s degree in Engineering or Technology with English/Communication experience.
  • Self-starter with a good work ethic and interest in learning and growing.
  • Strong written communication skills with the ability to clearly document technical or operational processes.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with technical writing and/or communication.
  • Experience with a robotics team or other hands-on engineering.

Responsibilities

  • Learn the engineering design process, focusing on creating clear and searchable documentation from complex technical concepts.
  • Collaborate with engineers and designers to understand design decisions and their system-wide impact.
  • Organize, update, and build a searchable Zendesk knowledge base.
  • Interview subject matter experts, engineers, and product designers to gather technical details.
  • Use visuals such as diagrams, charts, screenshots, and videos to explain technical information.
  • Write, edit, and maintain clear, accurate, and well-organized technical documentation.
