About The Position

Altair is seeking a Technical Solutions Engineer to join its Technical Solutions team. The role serves as a technical bridge among customers, module partners, and Altair R&D, helping customers design in ALT1250, ALT1350, and next-generation chipsets and supporting them from evaluation through mass production. The position is remote in the United States, with periodic travel to customer and partner sites, mainly in North America and occasionally elsewhere. Candidates must be legally authorized to work in the United States; visa sponsorship is not available. The engineer supports customer hardware and software integration, embedded application development, debugging, certification, and interoperability. They also deliver technical presentations and demos, translate customer requirements into Product and R&D inputs, and create technical documentation. The role requires close customer collaboration, practical cellular, RF, networking, and embedded expertise, and the ability to manage multiple customer projects remotely.

Requirements

  • B.Sc. in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a related field.
  • At least 3 years in a technical customer-facing role, such as field application engineering, solutions engineering, or technical account management, plus at least 5 additional years in technical roles such as systems engineering, embedded development, or RF engineering.
  • Solid understanding of 3GPP cellular standards across 4G and 5G, including LTE, LTE-M/NB-IoT, 5G NR, and RedCap.
  • Working knowledge of IP networking and IoT protocols: TCP/IP, UDP, HTTP, CoAP, MQTT, and LwM2M, plus cloud connectivity with AWS, such as AWS IoT Core.
  • Practical RF knowledge, including link budget, sensitivity, and TRP/TIS concepts, and comfort working with spectrum analyzers and call boxes.
  • Hands-on embedded programming in C/C++ on MCUs, including RTOS, UART/SPI/I2C peripherals, and low-level debugging.
  • Experience reading and analyzing modem logs, protocol traces, and AT command sessions.
  • Proven experience working directly with Tier 1 customers and strong customer-facing communication skills, including the ability to explain complex technical issues clearly to engineers and managers.
  • Familiarity with AI tools for coding and debugging, such as AI coding assistants for writing code, analyzing logs, and troubleshooting.
  • Self-driven and organized, with the ability to manage several customer projects in parallel while working remotely.
  • Legally authorized to work in the United States; visa sponsorship is not available.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience at a cellular IoT chipset or module company.
  • Familiarity with FOTA and device management.
  • Background in carrier certification, including PTCRB, GCF, or AT&T, Verizon, or T-Mobile acceptance.
  • Knowledge of GNSS, low-power design, and battery-life optimization for trackers.
  • Exposure to 5G RedCap/eRedCap, NTN, or device security.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as the main technical point of contact for assigned customers and module partners from initial evaluation through design-in, certification, and mass production.
  • Support hardware and software integration, including reference designs, RF guidance, power optimization, GNSS and Wi-Fi positioning, and host MCU integration.
  • Debug field and lab issues end to end by analyzing modem logs, AT command flows, protocol traces, and RF measurements; reproduce issues and drive resolution with R&D.
  • Help customers bring up and port applications on embedded MCUs, including work with C/C++, RTOS, drivers, FOTA, and CoAP/MQTT/LwM2M stacks.
  • Support carrier certification and interoperability activities, including PTCRB, GCF, and operator acceptance, with partners and laboratories.
  • Deliver technical presentations, workshops, and demonstrations for customers; contribute to RFQs, feature comparisons, and competitive analysis.
  • Capture customer requirements and feature requests and translate them into clear inputs for Product and R&D.
  • Write application notes, FAQs, and internal knowledge-base content.
  • Travel periodically to customer and partner sites, mainly within North America and occasionally outside North America.
