Technical Field Engineer - Local area travel - Charlotte, NC
About The Position
PGTEK is seeking an experienced Onsite Field Engineer to provide on-site maintenance and break/fix services for Dell-specific solutions at enterprise customer sites in the Charlotte, North Carolina metro area, covering a 100-mile radius. The engineer supports mission-critical systems by helping maintain uptime and optimal performance. Candidates must reside in the greater Charlotte area, have reliable personal transportation, and be comfortable traveling to customer sites throughout the assigned service area. The role focuses on Dell ISG Storage products, including installation, configuration, implementation, integration, maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair. Engineers provide technical and administrative support directly to customers, work with subject matter experts on complex issues, and retain ownership of customer satisfaction through resolution and escalation as needed. The work involves issues of moderate scope, applying judgment within established procedures and contributing to investigations and recommendations for longer-term solutions. The position supports 24x7 business operations and requires schedule flexibility. Work is mostly during the day, with evening work and occasional overnight potential. The posting lists day, evening, and overnight shifts. Additional product training is expected for ECS, PMAX/VMAX, and other Dell ISG Storage platforms as needed. Advanced certification training is also expected over time.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree with at least 2 years of professional experience, an advanced degree with no prior experience, or equivalent work experience.
- Hands-on experience with Dell ISG Storage solutions, including DataDomain, PowerScale, and VxRail.
- SABA Level 3 minimum training for VxRail.
- Willingness and ability to pursue advanced SABA Level 5 certifications over time.
- Reliable personal transportation.
- Ability and willingness to travel within the assigned service area.
- Schedule flexibility to support 24x7 business operations, including day, evening, and overnight shifts.
- Residence within the greater Charlotte area.

- Additional product training for ECS, PMAX/VMAX (SABA Levels 2–5), and other Dell ISG Storage platforms as needed.
Responsibilities
- Install, configure, implement, integrate, maintain, troubleshoot, and repair Dell ISG Storage products at customer sites.
- Provide technical and administrative support directly to customers.
- Interpret customer needs, clarify responsibilities, and ensure timely issue resolution.
- Partner with subject matter experts to resolve complex technical problems.
- Use troubleshooting tools, technical knowledge, and analytical practices to identify and resolve issues.
- Escalate issues when necessary while maintaining ownership of customer satisfaction.
- Work on issues of moderate scope requiring varied analysis and apply judgment within defined procedures.
- Contribute to investigations and provide recommendations for long-term solutions.
- Travel to customer sites within the assigned service area, supporting a 100-mile radius around Charlotte, NC.
