About The Position

Brock University is seeking a Teaching Assistant for CHYS 3P10 Fall D2 - Qualitative Research Methods in Child and Youth Studies. This position involves assisting the instructor with course delivery, including seminars, marking, and student consultation. The role requires flexibility to deliver both in-person and online seminars and to be available to meet with the instructor during business hours. Compensation will be based on the employee's qualifications, with rates for undergraduate and graduate levels effective September 1, 2026.

Requirements

  • Minimum 3rd Year complete in the CHYS BA or CHYS BA/BEd program, or be entering and/or continuing in the CHYS MA or CHYS PhD program.
  • Must have previously completed CHYS 3P10 or equivalent, and obtained 80% or higher.
  • Demonstrated successful experience in seminar administration for an on-line course, or as a marker-grader for an on-line course.
  • Demonstrated successful experience grading on-line (i.e., Brightspace).
  • Must have effective communication skills including the ability to explain subject material to students.
  • Ability to prioritize work and meet deadlines.
  • Applications must include a cover letter, a current resume, the names and contact information for three references.
  • Provide documentation for consideration of equivalency if applicable.

Nice To Haves

  • Previous successful experience as a Teaching Assistant for CHYS 3P10 will be considered as equivalent.
  • Provide, if available, an evaluation of successful previous experience as a Teaching Assistant or Marker-Grader.

Responsibilities

  • Assist with scheduled contact time with students.
  • Prepare seminar material.
  • Provide student consultation.
  • Mark or grade assignments, term projects, case reports, midterms, progress exams, and/or final exams.
  • Provide written feedback to students on their submissions.
  • Deliver both in-person and web-based seminars.
  • Administer on-line seminars.
  • Proctor examinations.
  • Hold office hours.
  • Perform other course administration as required.
  • Be available to meet with the Instructor as necessary, between the hours of 9 AM and 5 PM.
