About The Position

Brock University is seeking a Teaching Assistant for the CHYS 2P38 Fall D2-1 course. This position is part of the CUPE4207-1 employee group. The role involves assisting the instructor with various course-related duties, including direct student contact, preparation of course materials, student consultation, marking assignments and exams, proctoring, and other administrative tasks. The Teaching Assistant will be paid according to their qualifications, with rates differing for those holding a 4-year honours degree or a 3-year pass degree compared to those who do not. The position requires availability for in-person orientation, weekly TA meetings, and in-person tests and exams, as well as the ability to meet with the instructor during business hours.

Requirements

  • Minimum 3rd Year complete in the CHYS BA or CHYS BA/BEd program, or be entering and/or continuing in the CHYS MA or CHYS PhD program.
  • Must have previously completed CHYS 2P38 or equivalent, and obtained 80% or higher.
  • Previous successful experience as a Teaching Assistant for CHYS 2P38 will be considered as equivalent.
  • Must have effective communication skills including the ability to explain subject material to students.
  • Ability to prioritize work and meet deadlines.
  • Provide, if available, an evaluation of successful previous experience as a Teaching Assistant or Marker-Grader.
  • Applicant's responsibility to identify the course for consideration of equivalency.
  • For courses taken at Brock, identify the course (i.e., XXXX 3P00).
  • For courses taken elsewhere provide a copy of your transcript, highlight the course and provide the course description.
  • Failure to provide the required documentation to support the request for consideration of equivalency will result in an incomplete application.

Responsibilities

  • Preparation of seminar material
  • Student consultation
  • Marking or grading assignments, presentations, term projects, case reports, midterms, progress exams, and/or final exams
  • Providing written feedback to students on their submissions
  • Examination proctoring
  • Attending lectures
  • Holding office hours
  • Other course administration as may be required
  • Attend in-person orientation meetings in September and January
  • Attend weekly TA meetings
  • Attend in-person tests and exams
  • Meet with the instructor between the hours of 8 AM and 5 PM
