About The Position

Brock University is seeking a Teaching Assistant for the CHYS 4P80 Fall D2 course, "The Disciplinary Continuum." This position is part of the CUPE 4207-1 employee group. The role involves assisting the instructor with various course-related duties, including direct student interaction, preparation of course materials, marking assignments, and administrative tasks. Requirements

  • Minimum 4th Year complete in the CHYS BA or CHYS BA/BEd program, or be entering and/or continuing in the CHYS MA or CHYS PhD program.
  • Must have previously completed CHYS 4P80 or equivalent, and obtained 80% or higher.
  • Must have effective communication skills including the ability to explain subject material to students.
  • Ability to prioritize work and meet deadlines.
  • Provide, if available, an evaluation of successful previous experience as a Teaching Assistant or Marker-Grader.
  • Applicant's responsibility to identify the course for consideration of equivalency. For courses taken at Brock, identify the course (i.e., XXXX 3P00). For courses taken elsewhere provide a copy of your transcript, highlight the course and provide the course description. Failure to provide the required documentation to support the request for consideration of equivalency will result in an incomplete application.

  • Previous successful experience as a Teaching Assistant for CHYS 4P80 will be considered as equivalent.

Responsibilities

  • Scheduled contact time with students.
  • Non-classroom time including preparation of seminar material, student consultation, marking or grading, examination proctoring, attending lectures, holding office hours, and other course administration.
  • Marking assignments, term projects, case reports, midterms, progress exams, and/or final exams.
  • Providing written feedback to students that clearly identifies the basis of the grade assigned.
  • Attending the final 60 minutes of lecture each week.
  • Meeting with the Instructor as necessary, between the hours of 9 AM and 5 PM.

Benefits

  • Compensation according to qualifications: undergraduate rate ($23.30/hour) or graduate rate ($36.67/hour) effective September 1, 2026.
  • Compensation for additional duties at the appropriate Teaching Assistant rate.
