About The Position

Brock University is seeking a Teaching Assistant for the CHYS 3P10 Winter D3 - Qualitative Research Methods in Child and Youth Studies course. The nominal hours for this position depend on enrollment. Compensation will be based on the employee's qualifications, with an undergraduate rate of $23.30 per hour and a graduate rate of $36.67 per hour (effective September 1, 2026). Additional duties will be compensated at the appropriate Teaching Assistant rate. The role involves scheduled contact time with students and non-classroom time, including preparation of seminar material, student consultation, marking or grading, examination proctoring, attending lectures, holding office hours, and other course administration. The position requires marker-grader responsibilities, including providing written feedback on assignments, term projects, case reports, midterms, progress exams, and/or final exams. Seminars will alternate between in-person and online delivery, requiring both in-person seminar delivery and web-based seminar administration. The Teaching Assistant must be available to meet with the Instructor as necessary between 9 AM and 5 PM.

Requirements

  • Minimum 3rd Year complete in the CHYS BA or CHYS BA/BEd program, or be entering and/or continuing in the CHYS MA or CHYS PhD program.
  • Must have previously completed CHYS 3P10 or equivalent, and obtained 80% or higher.
  • Must have effective communication skills including the ability to explain subject material to students.
  • Ability to prioritize work and meet deadlines.
  • Provide, if available, an evaluation of successful previous experience as a Teaching Assistant or Marker-Grader.
  • For courses taken elsewhere provide a copy of your transcript, highlight the course and provide the course description.
  • Failure to provide the required documentation to support the request for consideration of equivalency will result in an incomplete application.
