About The Position

Brock University is seeking a Teaching Assistant for the CHYS 2P52 Winter D3 - RESEARCH METHODS IN CHILD & YOUTH STUDIES II course. This position involves assisting the instructor with various course-related duties, including scheduled contact time with students and non-classroom tasks such as preparation of seminar material, student consultation, marking, grading, examination proctoring, attending lectures, holding office hours, and other course administration. The role also includes marker-grader responsibilities, requiring the marking of assignments, term projects, case reports, midterms, progress exams, and/or final exams, with the expectation of providing written feedback to students. The Teaching Assistant must be available to meet with the Instructor as necessary between 9 AM and 5 PM.

Requirements

  • Minimum 3rd Year complete in the CHYS BA or CHYS BA/BEd program, or be entering and/or continuing in the CHYS MA or CHYS PhD program.
  • Must have previously completed CHYS 3P15 or equivalent, and obtained 80% or higher.
  • Must have effective communication skills including the ability to explain subject material to students.
  • Ability to prioritize work and meet deadlines.

  • If necessary, assure to include documentation for consideration of equivalency.

Nice To Haves

  • Previous successful experience as a Teaching Assistant for CHYS 2P52 will be considered as equivalent.
  • Provide, if available, an evaluation of successful previous experience as a Teaching Assistant or Marker-Grader.

Responsibilities

  • Scheduled contact time with students
  • Non-classroom time including preparation of seminar material, student consultation, marking or grading, examination proctoring, attending lectures, holding office hours, and other course administration
  • Mark assignments, term projects, case reports, midterms, progress exams, and/or final exams
  • Provide written feedback to students that will clearly identify the basis of the grade assigned
  • Be available to meet with Instructor as necessary, between the hours of 9 AM and 5 PM
