About The Position

This job advertisement is to fill an existing vacancy for a Teaching Assistant for the HIST 1P96 course, "Domination and Defiance: Modern Global History," for the Winter term. The position is within the CUPE4207-1 Employee Group. Compensation for Teaching Assistant, Course Coordinator, and Lab Demonstrator positions is based on qualifications. Employees without a 4-year honours degree or a 3-year pass degree will be paid the undergraduate rate of $23.30 per hour (effective September 1, 2026). Employees with a 4-year honours degree or a 3-year pass degree will be paid the graduate rate of $36.67 per hour (effective September 1, 2026). Additional duties required will be compensated at the appropriate Teaching Assistant rate. The duties and responsibilities are in accordance with Article 22 of the CUPE Local 4207, Unit 1, Collective Agreement and include scheduled contact time with students and non-classroom time such as preparation of seminar material, student consultation, marking or grading, examination proctoring, attending lectures, holding office hours, and other course administration.

Requirements

  • A four-year Honours B.A., or equivalent, in History with a minimum 75% average in History courses.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of 20th-Century European or North American or World History.
  • Evidence of successful previous university-level teaching assistant experience or equivalent.
  • Demonstrated organizational and effective communication skills including the ability to explain subject material to students, be punctual in attending classes, and meet appropriate deadlines.
