About The Position

This job advertisement is to fill an existing vacancy for a Teaching Assistant, Course Coordinator, and Lab Demonstrator position in HIST 2Q97: Indigenous-Settler Relations in Canada for the Winter D3 term. Teaching Assistant, Course Coordinator and Lab Demonstrator positions are paid according to the qualifications that the employee holds. Employees who do NOT hold a 4-year honours degree or a 3-year pass degree will be paid the undergraduate rate - $23.30 per hour. Employees who hold a 4-year honours degree or a 3-year pass degree will be paid the graduate rate - $36.67 per hour. In cases where additional duties are required as part of a Teaching Assistant’s duties, these hours shall be compensated at the appropriate Teaching Assistant rate. The duties and responsibilities of the Teaching Assistant shall be in accordance with Article 22 of the CUPE Local 4207, Unit 1, Collective Agreement. These are made up of scheduled contact time with students and non-classroom time (including preparation of seminar material, student consultation, marking or grading, examination proctoring, attending lectures, holding office hours, and other course administration as may be required. This course will be taught synchronously online.

Requirements

  • A four-year Honours B.A., or equivalent, in History with a minimum 75% average in History courses.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of Canadian and Indigenous History is required.
  • Previous experience working in the last three years as a teaching assistant in HIST 2Q97.
  • Evidence of successful previous university-level teaching assistant experience or equivalent.
  • Demonstrated organizational and effective communication skills including the ability to explain subject material to students, be punctual in attending classes, and meet appropriate deadlines.
  • Working knowledge of Brightspace and Teams, and familiarity with evaluation of electronically submitted assignments.
