About The Position

Brock University is seeking a Teaching Assistant for the GEOG 2P03 - Cities in a Globalizing World course for the Fall D2 term. This position is part of the CUPE4207-1 Employee Group. Compensation will be based on the employee's qualifications, with an undergraduate rate of $23.30 per hour and a graduate rate of $36.67 per hour (effective September 1, 2026). Additional duties will be compensated at the appropriate Teaching Assistant rate. The duties include scheduled contact time with students and non-classroom time such as preparation of seminar material, student consultation, marking, grading, examination proctoring, attending lectures, holding office hours, and other course administration.

Requirements

  • Must be enrolled in or have completed a postgraduate degree or have completed a Honours Degree in Human Geography or equivalent.
  • If vacancies remain, students enrolled in an Honours Program (completed 13 or more credits) in Human Geography or equivalent will be considered.
  • Completion of 4 full credits in Human Geography with an overall average of 75% or higher in all Human Geography courses completed is required (or equivalent).
  • Completion of the course for which the applicant wishes to be a teaching assistant with a final grade of 75% or higher in that course (or equivalent).
  • Demonstrated successful undergraduate teaching experience or equivalent small group leadership in an undergraduate context.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Familiarity with MS-Excel or similar spreadsheet software, especially to calculate descriptive spatial statistics and clean Statistics Canada data.
  • Familiarity with QGIS, ArcGIS, or similar geomatics software to map Canadian census data and calculations generated from Canadian census data.
  • Ability to prioritize work and meet stipulated deadlines.
