About The Position

Brock University is seeking a Teaching Assistant for the CHYS 4P80 Winter D3 course. This position is part of the CUPE4207-1 employee group. The role involves assisting the instructor with course delivery, including scheduled contact time with students and non-classroom duties such as preparing materials, consulting with students, marking assignments, proctoring exams, holding office hours, and other administrative tasks. A key responsibility will be marker-grader duties, which include marking various student submissions and providing detailed written feedback. The Teaching Assistant must be available to attend the final 60 minutes of lecture each week and meet with the instructor between 9 AM and 5 PM as needed. Requirements

  • Minimum 4th Year complete in the CHYS BA or CHYS BA/BEd program, or be entering and/or continuing in the CHYS MA or CHYS PhD program.
  • Must have previously completed CHYS 4P80 or equivalent, and obtained 80% or higher.
  • Previous successful experience as a Teaching Assistant for CHYS 4P80 will be considered as equivalent.
  • Must have effective communication skills including the ability to explain subject material to students.
  • Ability to prioritize work and meet deadlines.
  • Provide, if available, an evaluation of successful previous experience as a Teaching Assistant or Marker-Grader.
  • It is the applicant’s responsibility to identify the course for consideration of equivalency. For courses taken at Brock, identify the course (i.e., XXXX 3P00). For courses taken elsewhere provide a copy of your transcript, highlight the course and provide the course description. Failure to provide the required documentation to support the request for consideration of equivalency will result in an incomplete application.

Responsibilities

  • Scheduled contact time with students
  • Non-classroom time including preparation of seminar material, student consultation, marking or grading, examination proctoring, attending lectures, holding office hours, and other course administration
  • Marker-Grader responsibilities: mark assignments, term projects, case reports, midterms, progress exams, and/or final exams
  • Provide written feedback to students that will clearly identify the basis of the grade assigned
  • Attend the final 60 minutes of lecture each week
  • Meet with Instructor as necessary, between the hours of 9 AM and 5 PM
