About The Position

This job advertisement is to fill an existing vacancy for a Teaching Assistant for the CHYS 2P51 Winter D3-1 course at Brock University. The position involves scheduled contact time with students and non-classroom time, including preparation of seminar material, student consultation, marking or grading, examination proctoring, attending lectures, holding office hours, and other course administration. Marker-Grader responsibilities are also required, which include marking assignments, term projects, case reports, midterms, progress exams, and/or final exams, and providing written feedback to students. Requirements

  • Minimum 3rd Year complete in the CHYS BA or CHYS BA/BEd program, or be entering and/or continuing in the CHYS MA or CHYS PhD program.
  • Must have previously completed CHYS 2P51 or equivalent, and obtained 80% or higher.
  • Previous successful experience as a Teaching assistant for CHYS 2P51 will be considered as equivalent.
  • Must have effective communication skills including the ability to explain subject material to students.
  • Provide, if available, an evaluation of successful previous experience as a Teaching Assistant or Marker-Grader.
  • Ability to prioritize work and meet deadlines.
  • It is the applicant’s responsibility to identify the course for consideration of equivalency.
  • For courses taken at Brock, identify the course (i.e., XXXX 3P00).
  • For courses taken elsewhere provide a copy of your transcript, highlight the course and provide the course description.
  • Failure to provide the required documentation to support the request for consideration of equivalency will result in an incomplete application.

Responsibilities

  • Scheduled contact time with students and non-classroom time (including preparation of seminar material, student consultation, marking or grading, examination proctoring, attending lectures, holding office hours, and other course administration as may be required).
  • Marker-Grader responsibilities will be required.
  • The marker-grader is expected to mark assignments, term projects, case reports, midterms, progress exams, and/or final exams and must be prepared to provide written feedback to students that will clearly identify the basis of the grade assigned; whether it is due to substantive content, or to written communications, including spelling, punctuation, grammar, and overall structure and organization of the submission.
