About The Position

This job advertisement is to fill an existing vacancy for a Teaching Assistant for FREN 2F03 Literature and Culture: The French-Speaking World for the Fall/Winter D1 term at Brock University. Teaching Assistant, Course Coordinator and Lab Demonstrator positions are paid according to the qualifications that the employee holds. Employees who do NOT hold a 4-year honours degree or a 3-year pass degree will be paid the undergraduate rate - $23.30 per hour. Employees who hold a 4-year honours degree or a 3-year pass degree will be paid the graduate rate - $36.67 per hour. In cases where additional duties are required as part of a Teaching Assistant’s duties, these hours shall be compensated at the appropriate Teaching Assistant rate. The duties and responsibilities of the Teaching Assistant shall be in accordance with Article 22 of the CUPE Local 4207, Unit 1, Collective Agreement. These include scheduled contact time with students and non-classroom time such as preparation of seminar material, student consultation, marking or grading, examination proctoring, attending lectures, holding office hours, and other course administration as may be required.

Requirements

  • Graduate Degree (PhD, PhD abd) in an area of French studies with a record of sustained successful teaching of second-year language courses in French at a University level.
  • Native or near native fluency in English and French.
  • Commitment to and competence in the use of Standard International French.
  • Teaching documentation: evidence of teaching competence in second-year language courses in French at University level; official student and peer evaluations; teaching dossier; references.
  • Ability to work alone without immediate direct supervision.
  • Ability to work within a team; clear comprehension of multi-section teaching; active participation in curriculum development; sharing of responsibilities in careful test preparation; student assessment; prompt and accurate marking.
  • Commitment to the incorporation of web-based pedagogical techniques, materials and resources (including textbook instructional platform, etc.) in the teaching of the course, as required.
  • Competence in the use of email, Brightspace, internet, common office software (e.g., Word, Excel) and multi-media equipment.
  • Commitment to responsible time management (e.g., course structuring, punctuality for lectures).
