About The Position

Brock University is seeking a Teaching Assistant for the HLSC 2P91 course for the Fall D2 term. This position is part of the CUPE4207-1 (Employee Group) and involves supporting students in a Health Sciences related discipline. Compensation for Teaching Assistant, Course Coordinator, and Lab Demonstrator positions is based on the employee's qualifications, with different hourly rates for those holding an undergraduate degree versus those with a 4-year honours degree or a 3-year pass degree. Additional duties will be compensated at the appropriate Teaching Assistant rate. The duties and responsibilities are in accordance with Article 22 of the CUPE Local 4207, Unit 1, Collective Agreement, and include scheduled contact time with students and non-classroom time such as preparation, consultation, marking, proctoring, attending lectures, holding office hours, and other course administration.

Requirements

  • Undergraduate degree in Health Sciences or related discipline
  • Completed this course within the last three years
  • Effective communication skills including the ability to explain subject material to students and provide constructive feedback
  • Punctual in attending classes
  • Able to meet appropriate deadlines
  • Experience or training with synchronous and asynchronous course support
  • Proficiency with online delivery tools (e.g., Lifesize, Microsoft Teams, Brightspace)
  • Proficiency with computer spreadsheets (e.g., Excel)
  • Proficiency with electronic audience response systems
  • Available to provide feedback in person and, when required, online

Nice To Haves

  • Fourth year (honours) standing students in Health Sciences or related discipline will be considered if vacancies remain
  • Experience leading seminars is an asset
