About The Position

This job advertisement is to fill an existing vacancy for a Teaching Assistant in the CUPE4207-1 (Employee Group) PRINCIPLES OF PHARMACOLOGY course. Compensation for Teaching Assistant, Course Coordinator, and Lab Demonstrator positions is based on qualifications. Employees without a 4-year honours degree or a 3-year pass degree will be paid the undergraduate rate of $23.30 per hour (effective September 1, 2026). Employees with a 4-year honours degree or a 3-year pass degree will be paid the graduate rate of $36.67 per hour (effective September 1, 2026). Additional duties required of a Teaching Assistant will be compensated at the appropriate Teaching Assistant rate. The duties and responsibilities are in accordance with Article 22 of the CUPE Local 4207, Unit 1, Collective Agreement, and include scheduled contact time with students and non-classroom time such as preparation of seminar material, student consultation, marking or grading, examination proctoring, attending lectures, holding office hours, and other course administration.

Requirements

  • An undergraduate degree in Health Sciences or related discipline.
  • Completed this course within the last three years.
  • Effective communication skills including the ability to explain subject material to students and provide constructive feedback.
  • Punctual in attending classes.
  • Able to meet appropriate deadlines.
  • Experience or training with synchronous and asynchronous course support.
  • Proficiency with online delivery tools (e.g., Lifesize, Microsoft Teams, Brightspace), computer spreadsheets (e.g., Excel), and electronic audience response systems.
  • Available to provide feedback in person and, when required, online.

Nice To Haves

  • Fourth year (honours) standing students in Health Sciences or related discipline will be considered if vacancies remain.
  • Experience leading seminars is an asset.
