About The Position

Brock University is seeking a Teaching Assistant for SPAN 2P95 Latin American and Iberian Film for the Winter D3 term. This position is part of the CUPE4207-1 employee group. Compensation is based on qualifications, with an undergraduate rate of $23.30 per hour and a graduate rate of $36.67 per hour, effective September 1, 2026. Additional duties will be compensated at the appropriate Teaching Assistant rate. The duties align with Article 22 of the CUPE Local 4207, Unit 1, Collective Agreement, and include scheduled contact time with students and non-classroom activities such as preparation, consultation, marking, proctoring, holding office hours, and other course administration.

Requirements

  • Minimum, fourth-year complete of a Spanish major with an overall average of 82% or higher.
  • Excellent knowledge of Latin American and Iberian cultures and/or film.
  • Demonstrated problem solving abilities.
  • Ability to work within a team and prioritize work and meet stipulated deadlines (e.g., punctuality for tutorials, submission of marked tests, assignments, etc.).
  • Ability to carry out online activities with students as directed by course instructor(s) and implement student assessment as set out by the instructor(s).
  • Ability to incorporate web-based pedagogical techniques, materials and resources as set out by instructor.
  • Competence in the use of email, Brightspace, internet, common office software (e.g., Word, Excel) and multi-media equipment.

Nice To Haves

  • MA preferred.
  • Applicants preferred to have taken SPAN 2P95 or the equivalent.
  • Previously demonstrated experience as a Teaching Assistant an asset.
