About The Position

This posting is for a Teaching Assistant/Demonstrator/Lab Monitor (CUPE) position for the CHG 4381 - INTRODUCTION BIOCHEMICAL ENGINEERING course during the 2026 Spring/Summer Semester. The role involves developing and evaluating tutorial assignments and design projects, running tutorial sessions (both MS Teams and in-person), guiding students, answering questions, maintaining student interaction, and grading quizzes and parts of the final exam. The position is for 2 positions, with an expected enrollment of 30 students. The work period is from May 25, 2026, to August 14, 2026, with a total of 65 work hours. The hourly rate is $31.89 for undergraduate students and $50.25 for graduate students (2024-2025 rates, excluding vacation and statutory pay). All University of Ottawa employees must complete mandatory legislated training. Applicants are encouraged to notify the university of any adaptive measures required for the selection process. The hiring process will follow the CUPE 2626 collective agreement. Requirements

  • Must be a student eligible for TA/RA positions.
  • Must have completed the course CHG 4381 or have equivalent knowledge.
  • Must have experience in biochemical engineering.
  • Must have excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Must be proficient in MS Teams and other relevant online collaboration tools.
  • Must be able to work independently and as part of a team.

Nice To Haves

  • Previous experience as a Teaching Assistant or Demonstrator.
  • Experience with online course delivery platforms.
  • Knowledge of the University of Ottawa's academic policies and procedures.
