About The Position

Garfield Park Behavioral Hospital provides inpatient psychiatric and partial hospitalization treatment for children and adolescents. We strive to provide compassionate care to every patient we serve. This role participates in ongoing educational assessments of patients, provides instruction to patients while maintaining an orderly and disciplined structure in the classroom, and develops special interventions for patients unable to function within the classroom setting. The position also assists in curriculum development, participates in patient treatment planning and staffings when necessary, and understands the basic growth and development milestones with appropriate interventions specific to the age and population served. The Clinical Educator will complete patient lesson plans, complete and maintain all records as required, and maintain an adequate supply of appropriate instructional materials relative to patient’s age and functioning level. Participation in case management activities and ensuring the maintenance of a safe and sanitary environment are also key aspects of this role.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree required
  • Valid PEL, Illinois teaching certificate required
  • Ability to communicate verbally and in writing.
  • Physical agility to manage patients.
  • Push, pull and lift up to 50 pounds.
  • Intermittent sitting, standing, walking, bending, reaching and stooping

Nice To Haves

  • Masters preferred
  • One year teaching ED/BD children and/or adolescents preferred
  • certification in Special Education preferred
  • Prefer knowledge of effective teaching skills and educational strategies with a special education population
  • Prefer knowledge of individual and group management skills
  • Prefer knowledge of therapeutic relationships and processes
  • Prefer knowledge of age specific growth and development
  • Prefer knowledge of limit setting and crisis and behavior management
