About The Position

The Target Security Specialist works on the Assets Protection team to help keep guests, team members, and the brand secure. The role supports crisis response, safety and crowd management, de-escalation, physical security, theft and fraud prevention, and protection of profitable sales. Specialists build relationships with store leaders and public safety officials, including law enforcement, and help ensure products remain available to guests. The position combines security responsibilities with guest service and teamwork. Specialists assess and maintain safe and secure conditions throughout the store and exterior property, respond to and document incidents, conduct merchandise theft recoveries, support theft apprehensions in accordance with policy, and perform receipt checks. They use Target’s video surveillance and case management systems, while providing a welcoming and helpful shopping experience.

Requirements

Must be at least 18 years of age.
High school diploma or equivalent.
Meet any state or local licensure and other legal requirements related to the position.
Have a welcoming and helpful attitude toward guests and team members.
Ability to communicate using multiple-frequency devices and operate handheld scanners and other technology equipment as directed.
Effective communication skills.
Ability to work independently and with a team.
Ability to manage workload and prioritize tasks independently.
Ability to remain focused and composed in a fast-paced environment and complete multiple tasks within established timeframes.
Ability to climb ladders and apprehend subjects in accordance with company policy.
Ability to scan, handle, and move merchandise safely and efficiently, including frequently lifting or moving items up to 40 pounds without assistance.
Ability to work a flexible schedule that may include nights, weekends, holidays, and peak shopping times; report to scheduled shifts and take required meal and rest breaks.
Ability to work in and be exposed to varying temperatures, humidity, and other elements while performing certain duties.
Ability to remain mobile for the duration of a scheduled shift, which may vary in length.

Responsibilities

Create an easy, inspiring, and friendly guest experience by greeting guests warmly, helping them find what they need or resolve issues, and thanking them at the end of transactions.
Actively support team efforts and assist peers in other areas while maintaining a positive and respectful attitude.
Adjust to business and guest needs to deliver an easy and inspiring guest experience.
Assess and maintain safe and secure standards throughout the store, including exterior property, and promote a physical security culture.
Respond to security incidents and guest issues in a timely and appropriate manner, accurately documenting incidents.
Use de-escalation tactics and resources when responding to security incidents across the store.
Conduct merchandise theft recoveries and provide theft apprehension support as needed, adhering to Assets Protection policies.
Perform merchandise receipt checks at the front of the store, recognize and communicate trends, and follow Assets Protection policies.
Submit appropriate documentation for all incidents in the case management system in accordance with policy and procedures.
Understand and appropriately use Target’s video surveillance system.
Demonstrate ethical conduct and a culture of safety and compliance.
Work safely, comply with safety policies, best practices, and training, and report hazards and correct them where possible.
Perform other duties based on business needs.
