About The Position

Target Security Specialists help protect guests, team members, and the Target brand by supporting store safety and security, responding to incidents, preventing theft and shortage, and providing a welcoming guest experience. The role involves using intelligence-led tactics, de-escalation, physical security controls, video surveillance, and case management systems. Team members receive training for the role and work collaboratively while adapting to changing business and guest needs.

Requirements

• Must be at least 18 years of age.
• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Meet applicable state or local licensure and other legal requirements related to the position.
• Welcoming and helpful attitude toward guests and team members.
• Ability to communicate using multiple-frequency devices and operate handheld scanners and other technology equipment as directed.
• Effective communication skills.
• Ability to work independently and with a team.
• Ability to manage workload and prioritize tasks independently.
• Ability to remain focused and composed in a fast-paced environment and complete multiple tasks within established timeframes.
• Ability to climb up and down ladders.
• Ability to apprehend subjects in accordance with company policy.
• Ability to scan, handle, and move merchandise safely and efficiently, including frequently lifting or moving merchandise weighing up to 40 pounds without assistance.
• Ability to work a flexible schedule, including nights, weekends, and holidays, and to work scheduled shifts and take required meal and rest breaks.
• Ability to work in and be exposed to varying temperatures, humidity, and other elements while performing certain duties.
• Ability to remain mobile for the duration of a scheduled shift; shift length may vary.
• Enjoy interacting with and helping guests and fellow team members.
• Ability to thrive in a fast-moving, active, and physically demanding role requiring teamwork, flexibility, and creative problem solving.

Responsibilities

• Create a friendly, helpful guest experience by greeting guests, assisting them, resolving issues, and thanking them.
• Support team efforts and assist peers in other areas while maintaining a positive and respectful attitude.
• Assess and maintain safe and secure standards throughout the store, including exterior property.
• Respond to and document security incidents accurately and promptly.
• Respond appropriately to guest issues to help maintain a safe and secure environment.
• Use de-escalation tactics and resources when responding to security incidents.
• Conduct merchandise theft recoveries and provide theft apprehension support as needed, following Asset Protection policies.
• Perform merchandise receipt checks to help prevent theft and shortage, and recognize and communicate trends.
• Submit incident documentation in the case management system according to Asset Protection policies and procedures.
• Understand and appropriately use Target's video surveillance system.
• Demonstrate ethical conduct, safety, and compliance; follow safety policies and training, and report or correct hazards where possible.
• Perform other duties based on business needs.
