About The Position

Target Security Specialists help protect guests, team members, the store, and the Target brand. The role supports a safe and secure shopping environment, mitigates shortage risks, and helps prevent and resolve theft and fraud so products remain available to guests. Specialists build relationships with store leaders and public safety officials, including law enforcement, and use intelligence-led tactics, de-escalation, crisis response, physical security controls, and video surveillance. They document incidents and cases accurately and promptly, while also supporting a friendly, helpful guest experience and assisting peers as needed.

This is an active, physically demanding position requiring flexibility, teamwork, sound judgment, and the ability to work independently. The schedule may vary and can include nights, weekends, holidays, and peak shopping periods. Team members must be able to remain mobile throughout a shift, work in varying environmental conditions, climb ladders, and frequently lift or move merchandise weighing up to 40 pounds without assistance.

Requirements

• Must be at least 18 years of age.
• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Meet any state or local licensure and other legal requirements related to the position.
• Welcoming and helpful attitude toward guests and team members.
• Ability to communicate using multiple-frequency devices and operate handheld scanners and other technology equipment as directed.
• Effective communication skills.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
• Ability to manage workload and prioritize tasks independently.

• Availability for a flexible schedule, including nights, weekends, and holidays, and ability to work scheduled shifts and take required meal and rest breaks.
• Ability to work in and be exposed to varying temperatures, humidity, and other elements while performing certain duties, including Drive-Up and carryout.
• Ability to remain mobile for the duration of a scheduled shift.

Responsibilities

• Deliver a friendly guest experience by greeting guests, helping them find what they need, resolving issues, and thanking them.
• Support team efforts and assist peers in other areas while maintaining a positive and respectful attitude.
• Adapt to business and guest needs to provide an easy and inspiring shopping experience.
• Assess and maintain safe and secure standards throughout the store, including exterior property.
• Respond to security incidents and accurately document them in a timely manner.
• Respond appropriately to guest issues to help maintain a safe environment for guests and team members.
• Use de-escalation tactics and resources when responding to security incidents across the store.
• Conduct merchandise theft recoveries and provide theft apprehension support as needed, following Asset Protection policies.
• Perform merchandise receipt checks at the front of the store, recognize theft and shortage trends, and communicate them.
• Submit incident documentation in the case management system according to Asset Protection policies and procedures.
• Understand and appropriately use Target’s video surveillance system.
• Demonstrate ethical conduct, safety, and compliance; follow safety policies and training, and report or correct hazards when possible.
• Perform other duties based on business needs.
