About The Position

Target Security Specialists help protect guests, team members, and the Target brand while supporting a safe, secure, and welcoming shopping experience. The role involves using intelligence-led tactics, crisis response, de-escalation, physical security controls, video surveillance, and case-management systems. Specialists support theft and shortage prevention, respond to security incidents, and build relationships with store leaders and public safety officials. The position also includes guest-service responsibilities: greeting and assisting guests, resolving issues, thanking guests, supporting peers, and adapting to business needs. Specialists maintain security standards throughout the store and exterior property, document incidents, conduct merchandise receipt checks, assist with theft recoveries and apprehensions in accordance with policy, and follow safety and compliance practices. Other duties may be assigned based on business needs.

Requirements

Must be at least 18 years of age.
High school diploma or equivalent.
Meet state or local licensure and other legal requirements related to the position.
Welcoming and helpful attitude toward guests and team members.
Ability to communicate using multiple-frequency devices and operate handheld scanners and other technology equipment as directed.
Effective communication skills.
Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
Ability to manage workload and independently prioritize tasks.
Ability to remain focused and composed in a fast-paced environment and complete multiple tasks within established timeframes.
Ability to climb up and down ladders.
Ability to apprehend subjects in accordance with company policy.
Ability to scan, handle, and move merchandise efficiently and safely, including frequently lifting or moving merchandise weighing up to 40 pounds without additional assistance.
Ability to work a flexible schedule, including nights, weekends, and holidays; report for scheduled shifts and take required meal and rest breaks.
Ability to work in and be exposed to varying temperatures, humidity, and other elements while performing certain duties, including Drive-Up and carryout.
Ability to remain mobile for the duration of a scheduled shift; shift length may vary.

Responsibilities

Create a friendly guest experience by greeting guests, helping them find what they need or resolve issues, and thanking them for their transactions.
Support team efforts and assist peers in other areas while maintaining a positive and respectful attitude.
Adapt to business and guest needs.
Assess and maintain safe and secure standards throughout the store, including exterior property.
Respond to security incidents and guest issues, using de-escalation tactics and resources where appropriate.
Accurately and promptly document security incidents in the case-management system according to Assets Protection policies and procedures.
Conduct merchandise theft recoveries and provide theft-apprehension support as needed, strictly adhering to company policy.
Perform merchandise receipt checks at the front of the store to help prevent theft and shortage, and recognize and communicate trends.
Understand and appropriately use Target’s video surveillance system.
Demonstrate ethical conduct, safety, and compliance; follow safety policies and training, report hazards, and correct them where possible.
Perform other duties based on business needs.
