About The Position

Target Security Specialists help protect guests, team members, and the Target brand while supporting a safe, secure, and welcoming store environment. The role contributes to shortage reduction and profitable sales by preventing and responding to theft and fraud, supporting crisis response, and building relationships with store leaders and public safety officials. Specialists use intelligence-led tactics, de-escalation, physical security controls, video surveillance, and case-management systems. The position also includes guest-service duties: welcoming guests, helping them find products or resolve issues, thanking them after transactions, and supporting peers while adapting to business needs. Security duties include maintaining safe and secure standards throughout the store and exterior property, responding to and documenting incidents, supporting theft apprehensions and merchandise recoveries in accordance with policy, performing receipt checks, identifying and communicating trends, and completing required case documentation. Team members must follow safety, ethical-conduct, and compliance requirements and perform other duties based on business needs.

Requirements

Must be at least 18 years old.
High school diploma or equivalent.
Meet state or local licensure and other legal requirements related to the position.
Welcoming and helpful attitude toward guests and team members.
Ability to communicate using multiple-frequency devices and operate handheld scanners and other technology equipment as directed.
Effective communication skills.
Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
Ability to manage workload and prioritize tasks independently.
Ability to remain focused and composed in a fast-paced environment and complete multiple tasks within established timeframes.
Ability to work a flexible schedule with varying hours, days, or shifts, including nights, weekends, holidays, and peak shopping times.
Ability to climb up and down ladders and apprehend subjects in accordance with company policy.
Ability to scan, handle, and move merchandise safely and efficiently, including frequently lifting or moving up to 40 pounds without assistance.
Ability to remain mobile for the duration of a scheduled shift, which may vary in length.
Ability to work in and be exposed to varying temperatures, humidity, and other elements while performing certain duties, including Drive-Up and carryout.

Responsibilities

Provide a friendly and helpful guest experience, including greeting guests, helping resolve issues, and thanking guests after transactions.
Support peers in other areas and adjust to business and guest needs while maintaining a positive and respectful attitude.
Assess and maintain safe and secure standards throughout the store, including exterior property.
Respond to security incidents and guest issues, using de-escalation tactics and available resources.
Accurately document security incidents and submit required case information in accordance with Assets Protection policies and procedures.
Conduct merchandise theft recoveries and provide theft-apprehension support as needed, following company policy.
Perform merchandise receipt checks at the front of the store and recognize and communicate theft and shortage trends.
Use Target’s video surveillance system appropriately.
Demonstrate ethical conduct, safety, and compliance; follow safety policies and training, report hazards, and correct hazards where possible.
Perform other duties based on business needs.
