About The Position

The Target Security Specialist supports Assets Protection by helping keep guests, team members, and the Target brand secure. The role helps protect profitable sales by mitigating shortage risks and preventing and resolving theft and fraud, while building relationships with store leaders and public safety officials, including law enforcement. It provides experience with intelligence-led safety tactics, crisis response, de-escalation, physical security controls, video surveillance, and incident documentation.

The specialist creates a friendly guest experience while maintaining safe and secure standards throughout the store and exterior property. Responsibilities include responding to and documenting security incidents, supporting theft recoveries and apprehensions in accordance with policy, conducting merchandise receipt checks, identifying and communicating trends, and using Target’s video surveillance and case management systems. The role also requires safe work practices, flexibility, teamwork, and the ability to remain mobile and composed in a fast-paced, physically demanding environment.

Requirements

• Must be at least 18 years of age.
• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Meet state or local licensure and other legal requirements related to the position.
• Welcoming and helpful attitude toward guests and team members.
• Ability to communicate on multiple-frequency devices and operate handheld scanners and other technology equipment as directed.
• Effective communication skills.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
• Ability to manage workload and prioritize tasks independently.
• Ability to remain focused and composed in a fast-paced environment and accomplish multiple tasks within established timeframes.
• Ability to climb up and down ladders.

• Ability to scan, handle, and move merchandise efficiently and safely, including frequently lifting or moving merchandise up to 40 pounds without additional assistance.
• Ability to work a flexible schedule, including nights, weekends, holidays, and other peak shopping times, and to work scheduled shifts and take required meal and rest breaks.
• Ability to work in and be exposed to varying temperatures, humidity, and other elements while performing certain job duties.
• Ability to remain mobile for the duration of a scheduled shift.

Responsibilities

• Create a friendly, helpful guest experience by greeting guests, helping them find what they need or resolve issues, and thanking them at the end of transactions.
• Support team efforts and assist peers in other areas while maintaining a positive and respectful attitude.
• Adjust to business and guest needs to deliver an easy and inspiring guest experience.
• Assess and maintain safe and secure standards throughout the store and exterior property.
• Respond to security incidents promptly and document them accurately.
• Respond appropriately to guest issues to provide a safe and secure environment for guests and team members.
• Use de-escalation tactics and resources when responding to security incidents across the store.
• Conduct merchandise theft recoveries and provide theft apprehension support as needed, in accordance with Assets Protection policies.
• Perform merchandise receipt checks at the front of the store, follow Assets Protection policies, and recognize and communicate trends.
• Submit appropriate documentation for incidents in the case management system, following Assets Protection policies and procedures.
• Understand and appropriately use Target’s video surveillance system.
• Demonstrate ethical conduct, safety, and compliance.
• Work safely, comply with safety policies, best practices, and training, and report hazards and correct them where possible.
• Perform other duties based on business needs.
