About The Position

Target Security Specialists help protect guests, team members, the brand, and profitable sales by maintaining a safe and secure store environment. The role supports crisis response, safety, crowd management, theft and fraud prevention, and shortage mitigation. Specialists build relationships with store leaders and public safety officials, including law enforcement, and use intelligence-led tactics, de-escalation, physical security controls, video surveillance, and case-management systems. The position also contributes to a friendly and helpful guest experience, supports colleagues across the store, and responds to business and guest needs. It is a fast-moving, physically demanding role requiring flexibility, teamwork, and the ability to remain composed while handling multiple tasks. Training is provided.

Requirements

Must be at least 18 years of age.
High school diploma or equivalent.
Meet applicable state or local licensure and other legal requirements related to the position.
Welcoming and helpful attitude toward guests and team members.
Ability to communicate using multiple-frequency devices and operate handheld scanners and other technology equipment as directed.
Effective communication skills.
Ability to work independently and with a team.
Ability to manage workload and prioritize tasks independently.
Ability to remain focused and composed in a fast-paced environment and accomplish multiple tasks within established timeframes.
Ability to climb up and down ladders.
Ability to apprehend subjects in accordance with company policy.
Ability to scan, handle, and move merchandise efficiently and safely, including frequently lifting or moving merchandise up to 40 pounds without additional assistance.
Flexible availability for scheduled shifts, including nights, weekends, holidays, and other peak shopping times; attendance for scheduled shifts and required meal and rest breaks.
Ability to work in and be exposed to varying temperatures, humidity, and other elements while performing certain duties, including Drive-Up and carryout.
Ability to remain mobile for the duration of a scheduled shift; shift length may vary.

Responsibilities

Create a friendly guest experience by greeting guests, helping them find what they need or resolve issues, and thanking them at the end of transactions.
Support team efforts and assist peers in other areas while maintaining a positive and respectful attitude.
Promote physical security by assessing and maintaining safe and secure standards throughout the store and exterior property.
Respond to security incidents and guest issues in a timely and appropriate manner, and accurately document incidents.
Use de-escalation tactics and available resources when responding to security incidents.
Conduct merchandise theft recoveries and provide theft apprehension support as needed, adhering to Assets Protection policies.
Perform merchandise receipt checks at the front of the store to help prevent theft and shortage, and recognize and communicate trends.
Submit incident documentation in the case-management system according to policy and procedures.
Understand and appropriately use Target’s video surveillance system.
Demonstrate ethical conduct, safety, and compliance; follow safety policies and training, and report or correct hazards where possible.
Perform other duties based on business needs.
