About The Position

Grand Canyon University (GCU) partners with nonprofit organizations identified by the IRS as 501(c)(3) to improve the quality of life for community residents. GCU has a partnership with the Glendale Elementary School District (GESD) System of Care Center (SoCC) which provides resources to improve outcomes for those engaged with the GESD community. This is a Community Service Learning Program (CSLP) student worker position, with services offered to non-GCU community members. The work schedule is dependent on the hours of operation and needs of the GESD SoCC, with a maximum of 20 hours per week during the academic year. Eligibility for Federal Work-Study (FWS) is required, necessitating the completion of the FAFSA. This position is approved for community service as defined by 34 CFR 675.2(b).

Requirements

  • Enrolled at GCU in a bachelor’s program or master’s program full-time during fall/spring or half-time during summer.
  • Maintain a 2.0 GPA as a Bachelor level student or a 3.0 GPA as a Master level student.
  • Maintain good financial and academic (SAP) standing with the University.
  • Experience working with families, schools, or community-based programs.
  • Strong organizational and interpersonal skills with a service-oriented mindset.
  • Passion for community service, equity, and supporting underserved populations.
  • Must have reliable transportation.
  • Must complete Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) to be reviewed for FWS-eligibility and awarded FWS.

Nice To Haves

  • Bilingual (Spanish/English) preferred.
  • Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in education, social work, human services, or a related field preferred; equivalent experience will be considered.

Responsibilities

  • Assist families accessing basic needs, including clothing, hygiene items, school supplies, and food through the Center.
  • Provide on-site support for events such as wellness fairs, community resource nights, and distribution days.
  • Greet and assist walk-in clients, helping them connect to available services and support.
  • Organize, prepare, and distribute donations and supplies to meet student and family needs.
  • Serve as a point of contact for families and community partners during scheduled programs and events.
  • Maintain accurate records of services provided, event participation, and inventory usage in alignment with CSLP and district requirements.
  • Support the scheduling and coordination of partner visits, service appointments, and internal program logistics.
  • Assist in preparing communication materials such as flyers, calendars, and outreach documents.
  • Track and manage inventory of in-kind donations and supplies.
  • Coordinate volunteer activities, including scheduling, communication, and on-site support.
  • May require occasional evening or weekend hours to support events.
