About The Position

Grand Canyon University (GCU) partners with nonprofit organizations to improve the quality of life for community residents. This position is a Community Service Learning Program (CSLP) student worker role in partnership with Arizona Students Recycling Used Tech (AZ StRUT). AZ StRUT refurbishes donated computers for distribution to education and community non-profit organizations. The student worker's schedule depends on AZ StRUT's operational hours and needs, with a maximum of 20 hours per week during the academic year. This role is approved as Community Service, providing services to non-GCU community members. Applicants must complete the FAFSA to be reviewed for Federal Work-Study (FWS) eligibility.

Requirements

  • No prior experience required – training will be provided.
  • Demonstrate good communication skills.
  • Able to work with minimal supervision.
  • Possess strong ethics, integrity, and sense of responsibility.
  • Must have reliable transportation.
  • Enrolled at GCU as a full-time student in a bachelor’s program or master’s program.
  • Maintain a 2.0 GPA as a Bachelor level student or a 3.0 GPA as a Master level student.
  • Maintain good financial and academic (SAP) standing with the University.

Responsibilities

  • Refurbish donated computers for distribution to community members in need.
  • Learn and work with Linux operating systems and Google Chrome environments.
  • Sort incoming electronic donations into categories: reuse, refurbish, or recycle.
  • Accurately log and track incoming electronics using a CRM system.
  • Support and guide fellow volunteers by providing training and coordination during refurbishment activities.
  • Tasks may change based on current priorities and organizational needs.
