About The Position

Grand Canyon University (GCU) partners with nonprofit organizations that improve the quality of life for community residents. GCU has a partnership with Future for Kids, an organization that provides mentor-driven out-of-school programs and camps focused on academics, athletics, and ethics for youth facing adversity. This position is a Federal Work-Study (FWS) Community Service Learning Program (CSLP) role, requiring applicants to complete their FAFSA to be reviewed for FWS eligibility. The CSLP student worker's schedule is dependent on Future for Kids' hours of operation and needs, with a maximum of 20 hours per week during the academic year. The services provided are designed to improve the quality of life for community residents, particularly low-income individuals, and are open and accessible to non-GCU community members.

Requirements

Enrolled at GCU as a full-time student in a bachelor’s program or master’s program
Maintain a 2.0 GPA as a Bachelor level student or a 3.0 GPA as a Master level student
Maintain good financial and academic (SAP) standing with the University
Have passion and willingness to help others succeed
Possess strong ethics, integrity, and sense of responsibility
Must have reliable transportation
Must obtain an Arizona level one fingerprint clearance card

Ability to speak a second language a plus

Responsibilities

Assist staff with programming (i.e., games, behavior management, mentor support)
Take the lead in programming as needed
Build a strong rapport with participating youths and mentors
Assist with set-up and clean-up at each program
Assist with tabling and recruitment as needed
Attend Monday meetings from 11am – 1pm
Visit a different site location at least two of the four program days each week
Other duties as assigned
