About The Position

Grand Canyon University (GCU) partners with nonprofit organizations, such as Arizona Students Recycling Used Tech (AZ StRUT), to improve the quality of life for community residents. This position, as an FWS-CSLP approved role, focuses on refurbishing donated computers for distribution to community members in need. The work schedule is dependent on AZ StRUT's operational hours and needs, with a maximum of 20 hours per week during the academic year. This role is designed to provide community services that benefit non-GCU community members.

Requirements

  • Enrolled at GCU as a full-time student in a bachelor’s program or master’s program.
  • Maintain a 2.0 GPA as a Bachelor level student or a 3.0 GPA as a Master level student.
  • Maintain good financial and academic (SAP) standing with the University.
  • Demonstrate good communication skills.
  • Able to work with minimal supervision.
  • Possess strong ethics, integrity, and sense of responsibility.
  • Must have reliable transportation.
  • Must complete FAFSA to be reviewed for FWS-eligibility and awarded FWS.

Nice To Haves

  • No prior experience required – training will be provided.

Responsibilities

  • Refurbish donated computers for distribution to community members in need.
  • Learn and work with Linux operating systems and Google Chrome environments.
  • Sort incoming electronic donations into categories: reuse, refurbish, or recycle.
  • Accurately log and track incoming electronics using a CRM system.
  • Support and guide fellow volunteers by providing training and coordination during refurbishment activities.
  • Tasks may change based on current priorities and organizational needs.
