About The Position

The Switchboard Operator (PBX Operator) operates the hospital switchboard and pager system and implements emergency plans according to hospital policy. The role supports callers, patients, families, visitors, employees, physicians, and referral sources by providing timely, professional service and coordinating with hospital units and staff. It also supports visitation, assessment and admission processes, and selected business-office tasks.

Requirements

• High school diploma or GED.

• PBX or customer service experience is preferred.

Responsibilities

• Receive incoming calls and direct them to the appropriate party in a timely and professional manner.
• Coordinate with hospital units and staff during visitation times and provide customer service to employees, visitors, physicians, patients, and referral sources.
• Coordinate with RESPOND regarding individuals presenting for assessments, enter information into the EMTALA log, and communicate calls or potential concerns about customers waiting to be assessed or admitted.
• Assist with customer, patient, and family needs during phone calls and visitation, including needs of people waiting to be seen by hospital staff.
• Coordinate with the business office on meal-ticket monies, safe entries and removals, mail distribution, and vehicle sign-ins and sign-outs.
• Operate the hospital switchboard and pager system and implement emergency plans according to hospital policy.
