About The Position

The Switchboard Operator greets and welcomes patients and members of the public who call the facility, providing courteous service in accordance with organizational policies and guidelines. The operator provides information and directions to callers and others, both internally and externally.

Following established hospital policies, the operator accurately and promptly carries out general and emergency procedures. These duties include placing phone calls and making overhead public-address announcements, pages, and other electronic notifications. Operators also perform related tasks and projects as directed. The Communication Center operates 24 hours a day, and operators must be prepared to work any shift.

Requirements

• High school diploma or GED.
• Two years of customer service experience.
• Computer keyboarding skills and general telephone knowledge.
• High concentration, memory retention, and attention to detail.
• Competence in spoken communication, interaction and versatility, decision-making and problem-solving, coping, commitment to task, tolerance of ambiguity, and decisiveness.
• Ability to work both with a team and independently.
• Clearly speak, write, and understand English, and be understood when speaking English.
• Maintain regular and acceptable attendance.
• Preparedness to work any shift; may be required to work weekends or overtime.

Nice To Haves

• Vocational training in an office curriculum.
• One year of experience as a telephone operator or in a similar role.
