About The Position

The Switchboard Operator works in Baptist Health’s PBX unit, the hospital’s central communications hub, which manages incoming and outgoing calls, paging systems, and emergency communications. The position is primarily responsible for answering and routing incoming calls, providing accurate information, and functioning as an information desk for the organization. The operator maintains knowledge of emergency code procedures and responds promptly and appropriately to alarms, including overhead paging. The role requires managing multiple tasks at once while operating multiple computer screens, processing work orders and service requests, and supporting the organization’s safety initiatives, mission, vision, values, culture of safety, and customer service standards. The schedule is PRN (as needed), first shift, in Corbin, Kentucky.

Requirements

High school diploma or GED required.
Basic computer skills required.
No prior experience required.
No licensure, certification, registration, or life support certification required.

Nice To Haves

One year of related switchboard, customer service, or communications experience preferred.
PBX/switchboard operation training preferred.
Typing and general office/computer training preferred.

Responsibilities

Answer and route incoming calls professionally and provide callers with accurate information.
Receive, document, and route messages to providers and staff, ensuring timely follow-up.
Respond to and coordinate emergency codes, alarms, and overhead paging activities.
Operate switchboard, communication, and information systems while managing multiple tasks.
Process and route work orders and service requests accurately and efficiently.
Maintain knowledge of emergency procedures, safety protocols, and compliance requirements.
Consistently monitor and adhere to safety responsibilities and initiatives.
Support Baptist Health’s mission, values, culture of safety, and customer service standards.
Complete required training and adhere to organizational policies and regulatory requirements.
