About The Position

OrthoArizona is an orthopedic group founded in 1994, providing musculoskeletal care through more than two dozen locations and over 75 orthopedic specialists. Its clinics offer services including pain management, physical and hand therapy, athletic performance, X-ray and MRI, and an orthopedic walk-in clinic. The Surgical Scheduler schedules and coordinates surgeries and communicates relevant information to patients, staff, and physicians. The role verifies information and records it in patients’ medical records, coordinates equipment and surgical support, maintains physician calendars, responds to calls and questions about upcoming surgeries, updates patient information, prepares surgical packet materials, and helps train and orient new staff.

Requirements

High school diploma or GED.
At least 1 year of medical scheduling experience.
Knowledge of medical terminology and anatomy.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Ability to understand and perform training on practice management software.
Ability to continue expanding knowledge of practice management software as updates occur.

2 years of experience in surgery scheduling.

Responsibilities

Schedule, coordinate, and reschedule surgeries.
Communicate necessary information to patients, staff, and physicians.
Verify necessary information and record it in patients’ medical records.
Coordinate equipment, surgical assistants, and anesthesia for surgeries.
Maintain and update physicians’ calendars.
Answer and screen telephone calls, clear voicemail, and return patient calls in a timely manner.
Answer questions about patients’ upcoming surgeries.
Update patient information.
Prepare surgical packet materials.
Assist with training and orienting new staff.
Follow all Standard Operating Procedures.
