About The Position

Virginia Mason Franciscan Health is seeking a Surgery Scheduler to coordinate surgical procedures and related services. The role manages scheduling and resource allocation, maintains accurate data, produces schedules, and oversees template maintenance. The scheduler ensures that procedures are arranged according to established standards and procedures, with attention to patient needs and operational requirements.

Requirements

• Two years of work experience in a medical office or healthcare environment where knowledge of medical terminology, insurance companies and codes, and policies and procedures was necessary.

Responsibilities

• Schedule patient surgical procedures based on authorized referrals and established standards and procedures.
• Verify and review physician privilege status before scheduling procedures.
• Gather and document insurance eligibility information, perform routine verifications, and enter data into the patient's electronic medical record as appropriate.
• Schedule or coordinate required pre-surgery clearances.
• Review applicable work queues to identify patients who need to confirm existing appointments or schedule future visits, and contact them according to established procedures.
• Contact patients to reschedule missed or cancelled appointments, document reasons for no-shows, and notify management when a policy violation requires further action.
• Manage scheduling and resource allocation, produce schedules, and maintain scheduling templates.
