2027 Summer Internship (US) - AI

Zebra Technologies•Lincolnshire, IL
•Hybrid

About The Position

Zebra’s summer internship program prepares students for entry into the business world by giving them insight into the functions of the organization through training, hands-on experiences, social and professional development activities, and a professional mentor relationship. Interns also gain opportunities to develop skills and learn about Zebra’s product portfolio while working with business contacts and on team assignments. This internship supports the CTO’s Solutions Startup team, which identifies, evaluates, and incubates new business ventures for Zebra. The team is building an AI engine powered by Claude that ingests customer interviews, market and competitive research, and internal strategy documents, then turns them into structured, cross-linked intelligence. Claude-driven commands use that knowledge base to perform repeatable analyses, synthesize findings, and generate charts and briefs for venture decisions. The intern will help integrate data sources and develop connectors and automated ingestion and analysis workflows. The role also involves prompt engineering, Python-based automation, reporting and brief generation, metadata and schema governance, and documenting APIs. This is a hybrid internship located in Lincolnshire, Illinois, with an expectation of at least three days of in-office attendance.

Responsibilities

  • Integrate and ingest data sources, including document libraries, interview transcripts, market and competitive documents, and third-party feeds, by mapping structures, access paths, and refresh cadences.
  • Develop and test source connectors that support modern authentication, change and delta detection, and parsing of attachments and binary files.
  • Automate and orchestrate ingestion pipeline runs, generate summary and synthesis pages, and use version tracking to reconcile potential drift or contradictions between sources.
  • Design and write Claude-driven automated analysis commands for tasks such as document chunking, extraction of core findings, and structured synthesis.
  • Research, draft, and rigorously test prompt templates and orchestration scripts, advancing candidate prompts toward robust production environments.
  • Create utility scripts in Python, establish data-refresh flows, update reporting dashboards using tools such as PowerPoint or Power Automate, and render dynamic HTML or PDF briefs.
  • Curate metadata taxonomies, conduct routine connector and schema health audits, and document APIs to support long-term system sustainability.
  • Develop planning, organizational, and leadership skills; increase technology knowledge, especially regarding Zebra’s product portfolio; manage team-based assignments; and practice interpersonal skills through follow-up with business contacts.
