Summer Camp Kitchen Assistant
About The Position
The Greater Philadelphia YMCA is hiring a part-time, seasonal Summer Camp Kitchen Assistant in Dingman's Ferry, Pennsylvania. The assistant supports food preparation and kitchen and dining room operations at summer camp, following direction from the Food Service Director. The role includes preparing and serving meal components, cleaning and maintaining kitchen equipment and spaces, safely storing food, and helping prepare supplies and food for campouts and cookouts. The YMCA offers team support and training, opportunities to learn and grow, and the chance to contribute to a community-focused nonprofit organization.
Requirements
- Be at least 18 years of age.
- Have a high school diploma or equivalent.
- Have at least one year of experience working in a kitchen or culinary environment.
- Have the desire and ability to learn assigned tasks.
- Enjoy working with children of all ages.
- Exhibit strong leadership skills and a passion for member service and building and maintaining a culture of member service excellence.
Responsibilities
- Assist with food preparation as directed by the Food Service Director, including cutting, peeling, and washing vegetables for the salad bar as needed.
- Mix juice or drink mix for each meal.
- Keep the milk machine full and ensure it is operating correctly.
- Clean spills in the kitchen and dining room.
- Prepare and pack food for overnight campouts and cookouts.
- Wash dishes, glasses, and silverware in the industrial dishwasher.
- Hand-wash pots and pans as needed.
- Keep the dishwasher area clean and safe.
- Clean the kitchen and dining hall after each meal, ensure food is stored safely within an appropriate time frame, and prepare the kitchen for the next meal.
- Take trash from the kitchen and dining room to the dumpster.
- Sweep and mop the kitchen and dining room to keep them clean and safe.
- Help put away bulk deliveries of food and kitchen supplies.
- Help in any kitchen or dining room area as requested by the Food Services Director.
- Assist with camp cleanup on the last day of the summer season.
