Part-time Substitute Teacher - Brownsville, TX
About The Position
Kokua Education is hiring substitute teachers in Brownsville and the surrounding Rio Grande Valley area for the 2026–27 school year. Substitute teachers create positive classroom experiences and serve as role models who help students see what is possible. The role offers a self-directed schedule, with teaching assignments at K–12 schools across the area and the option to work up to five days per week. Substitute teachers may also be asked to support school activities beyond classroom instruction, including lunch and recess supervision, hallway monitoring, tutoring, and proctoring during testing season. Kokua offers support daily from 6 a.m. to 8 p.m. The position may provide a pathway to permanent roles at high-performing K–12 schools.
Requirements
- At least one year of experience working with children in any setting, such as a classroom, tutoring, or coaching.
- At least 48 completed college credit hours.
- Confidence managing a classroom of students.
- Willingness to step in where needed, including supervision, tutoring, and proctoring duties.
- Ability to pass state and federal background checks.
Responsibilities
- Teach and supervise students in K–12 classroom assignments.
- Manage a classroom and help create a positive learning environment.
- Provide lunch and recess supervision, hallway monitoring, tutoring, or test proctoring as needed.
- Serve as a positive role model and contribute personal experiences to students’ learning.
