About The Position

Kokua Education is hiring substitute teachers for K-12 schools in New York City for the 2026-27 school year. Substitute teachers can set their own schedules and work up to five days per week in teaching assignments they are interested in. Assignments are available across NYC, with an opportunity to choose schools close to home. The role may include classroom teaching as well as lunch and recess supervision, hallway monitoring, tutoring, and proctoring during testing season. Kokua provides support daily from 6 a.m. to 8 p.m. and offers a path to permanent roles at high-performing K-12 schools.

Requirements

• Completed a bachelor's degree.
• At least one year of experience working with K-12 students.
• Confidence managing a classroom of students.
• Willingness to step in where needed, including supervision, tutoring, and proctoring assignments.
• Pass state and federal background checks.

Nice To Haves

• Willingness to commute to two or more boroughs.
• Availability to teach three days per week.
• Include all relevant experience working with students on the resume.

Responsibilities

• Teach and support students in K-12 classrooms.
• Manage a classroom of students.
