About The Position

Kokua Education is hiring substitute teachers for the 2026–27 school year in Queens and the surrounding New York City area. Substitute teachers work in K–12 schools, covering classroom assignments and serving as positive role models who encourage students’ love of learning. They can set their own schedule and work up to five days per week in assignments they choose. The role may also include lunch or recess supervision, hallway monitoring, tutoring, and proctoring during testing season. Candidates may choose from schools across the NYC area, and the position may provide a pathway to permanent roles at high-performing K–12 schools.

Pay is $182 per day for daily positions and $210 per day for long-term positions, with weekly paychecks through W-2 employment. Paid sick days accrue after teaching begins. Transportation assistance is available through an opportunity to enroll and use pre-tax dollars for public transportation and parking. Kokua offers daily support from 6 a.m. to 8 p.m. Applications are being accepted for the 2026–27 school year, and interviews can begin immediately.

Requirements

• Completed a bachelor's degree.
• At least one year of experience working with K–12 students.
• Confidence managing a classroom of students.
• Willingness to step in where needed, including supervision, tutoring, and proctoring duties.
• Pass state and federal background checks; costs are reimbursed after 10 assignments.
• Believe every child has a unique and powerful gift to share with the world.

Nice To Haves

• Willingness to commute to two or more boroughs is preferred.
• Availability to teach three days per week is preferred.
• Relevant experience working with students should be included on the resume.

Responsibilities
