About The Position

Kokua Education is hiring substitute teachers for K–12 schools in the Bronx and across the New York City area for the 2026–27 school year. Substitute teachers cover classroom assignments and serve as positive role models who support students’ learning and help them see new possibilities. The position offers a flexible schedule, with the ability to work up to five days per week and choose assignments of interest. Daily positions pay $182 per day, while long-term positions pay $210 per day; pay is weekly and provided through W-2 employment. Candidates may begin the interview process immediately, and Kokua says offers are typically made within one week of applying. The role can also provide a path toward permanent school positions.

Substitute teachers may be asked to help where needed beyond classroom instruction, including lunch and recess supervision, hallway monitoring, tutoring, and proctoring during testing season. Kokua provides daily support from 6 a.m. to 8 p.m. and reimburses background-check costs after 10 assignments. Candidates are preferred if they can commute to two or more boroughs and are available to teach at least three days per week.

Requirements

• Completed a bachelor's degree.
• At least 1 year of experience working with K–12 students.
• Confidence managing a classroom of students.
• Willingness to step in where needed, including supervision, tutoring, and proctoring duties.
• Pass state and federal background checks.
• Believe every child has a unique and powerful gift to share with the world.

Nice To Haves

• Availability to teach at least 3 days per week.
