About The Position

Kokua Education is hiring substitute teachers for K-12 schools in Round Rock, Pflugerville, and the surrounding Austin area for the 2026-27 school year. Substitute teachers provide classroom coverage and serve as positive role models who help students develop a love of learning. Assignments may include classroom teaching as well as lunch or recess supervision, hallway monitoring, tutoring, and testing proctoring. Teachers set their own schedules and may work up to five days per week, choosing assignments that interest them. Pay is up to $200 per day, depending on qualifications and assignment length: $129 per day for applicants with some college (48 or more credits) or an associate degree, $150 per day for applicants with a bachelor's degree or higher, and $200 per day for long-term assignments at all qualification levels. Pay is weekly via W-2. Kokua offers support daily from 6 a.m. to 8 p.m.; the role may also provide a path toward permanent positions at high-performing K-12 schools.

Requirements

At least 1 year of experience working with children in any setting, such as a classroom, tutoring, or coaching.
At least 48 college credit hours completed.
Confidence managing a classroom of students.
Willingness to help where needed, including supervision, tutoring, and testing proctoring.
Pass state and federal background checks; the costs are reimbursed after 10 assignments.
