About The Position

Kokua Education is hiring part-time substitute teachers in Weslaco and the surrounding Rio Grande Valley for the 2026–27 school year. Substitute teachers work in K–12 schools, covering classroom assignments and serving as positive role models who encourage students’ love of learning. They may also be asked to support students and schools through lunch or recess supervision, hallway monitoring, tutoring, and test proctoring. Teachers set their own schedules and may work up to five days per week in assignments they are interested in. Kokua offers daily support from 6 a.m. to 8 p.m. and a potential path to permanent roles at high-performing K–12 schools. Applications are being accepted now, and interviews can begin immediately.

Requirements

At least one year of experience working with children in any setting, such as a classroom, tutoring, or coaching.
At least 48 college credit hours completed.
Confidence managing a classroom of students.
Willingness to step in where needed, including supervision, tutoring, and test proctoring.
Pass state and federal background checks; the costs are reimbursed after 10 assignments.

Responsibilities

Cover classroom assignments and lesson plans at K–12 schools.
Manage a classroom of students.
Provide lunch or recess supervision, hallway monitoring, tutoring, and test proctoring when needed.
Serve as a positive role model and help students recognize their potential.
