About The Position

Wonderschool is hiring Preschool and Daycare Substitute Teachers in Wilmington, North Carolina, and surrounding areas in New Hanover County. The role involves filling in for teachers who are away because of vacation, illness, or personal matters, and providing children with a safe, nurturing, and engaging learning experience. Substitute teachers work with a team and follow the onsite program director’s guidance. The position offers a flexible schedule: teachers can choose their working location, days, and hours. Shifts typically range from 4 to 8 hours between 6 AM and 6 PM. Compensation is $14–$18 per hour, up to $144 per day, with additional bonuses and reimbursement for required training costs. A Wonderschool training and onboarding process is required.

Requirements

Be at least 18 years old.
Have experience in child care, teaching, or working with children ages 0–5.
Be patient, dependable, and excited to support young children as they learn and grow.
Be able to pass a state background check and complete a TB test and physical.
Have at least one of the following: a high school diploma or equivalent GED; a Child Development Associate (CDA) credential; an EDU 119 Early Childhood Credential; an ECE AA or BA degree; or at least one year of experience working in a licensed childcare facility.

Responsibilities

Fill in for teachers who are on leave for vacation, illness, or personal matters.
Provide children with a safe, nurturing, and engaging learning experience.
Engage children in educational games, arts and crafts, music, meals, outdoor play, and other activities.
Work with a team of teachers and follow the guidance of the onsite program director.
Communicate with families about their child’s day and progress.
Complete Wonderschool’s training and onboarding process.
