About The Position

Kokua Education is hiring part-time substitute teachers in Houston, Texas, for the 2026–27 school year. Substitute teachers work in K–12 schools, serving as positive role models who support students’ learning and help create a welcoming classroom environment. Teachers can set their own schedules and work up to five days per week in assignments they are interested in. Assignments may include daily or long-term teaching positions, as well as lunch and recess supervision, hallway monitoring, tutoring, and test proctoring. The role offers a path to permanent positions at high-performing K–12 schools. Kokua offers support daily from 6 a.m. to 8 p.m. Kokua Education, founded in 2011 by a former teacher, connects educators with schools across the country.

Requirements

• At least one year of experience working with children in any setting, such as a classroom, tutoring, or coaching.
• At least 48 college credit hours completed.
• Confidence managing a classroom of students.
• Willingness to step in where needed, including supervision, tutoring, and test proctoring.
• Must pass state and federal background checks; costs are reimbursed after 10 assignments.
• Include relevant experience working with students on the resume.

Responsibilities
