About The Position

Kokua Education is hiring substitute teachers for the 2026–27 school year to work in K–12 schools across the Philadelphia area. Substitute teachers cover classroom assignments, serve as positive role models, and help students discover their potential. Teachers can choose assignments and set their own schedules, working up to five days per week. Assignments may include daily and long-term positions, with pay of $196 per day for daily positions and $216 per day for long-term positions. Pay is issued weekly via W-2. The role may also involve lunch and recess supervision, hallway monitoring, tutoring, and test proctoring. Kokua provides support daily from 6 a.m. to 8 p.m. and reimburses background-check costs after 10 assignments.

Requirements

• Completed a bachelor’s degree.
• At least six months of experience working with students in any setting, such as a classroom, tutoring, or coaching.
• Confidence managing a classroom of students.
• Willingness to step in where needed, including supervision, tutoring, and test proctoring.
• Pass state and federal background checks; costs are reimbursed after 10 assignments.
• Able to commute to North Philadelphia, where many partner schools are located.
• Belief that every child has a unique and powerful gift to share with the world.

Responsibilities

• Cover teaching assignments in K–12 classrooms and support lesson plans.
• Manage a classroom of students.
• Provide lunch and recess supervision, hallway monitoring, tutoring, and test proctoring as needed.

• Commute to partner schools in the Philadelphia area, including North Philadelphia.
