Substitute Teacher - South Austin, TX
About The Position
Kokua Education is hiring substitute teachers for the 2026–27 school year in Kyle, Buda, and the surrounding Austin area. Substitute teachers support K–12 schools by leading classrooms and helping create a safe, supportive learning environment. Assignments and locations are selected by the substitute, with schedules provided before an assignment is accepted. Most assignments start between 7:00 and 8:00 AM and end between 3:45 and 4:45 PM, though times vary by school. Flexibility for earlier or later school needs is helpful. Substitutes may also support the campus throughout the school day with tasks such as lunch and recess supervision, hall and bathroom monitoring, tutoring, and proctoring during testing season. The position offers a flexible schedule of up to five days per week. Kokua provides W-2 employment, weekly pay, and access to a support team from 6 AM to 8 PM every day. Daily pay is based on education and assignment length: $150 for substitutes with bachelor's or master's/professional degrees, $129 for those with a high school/GED credential, 48 or more college credits, or an associate degree, and $200 per day for long-term assignments. Out-of-pocket costs are reimbursed after 10 teaching assignments.
Requirements
- At least 1 year of experience working with students in any setting, such as a classroom, tutoring, coaching, or camps.
- At least 48 college credit hours.
- Confidence managing a classroom of students.
- Ability to read, write, and speak English fluently.
- Ability to pass state and federal background checks.
- Strong belief that every child has a unique and powerful gift to share with the world.
