About The Position

Kokua Education is hiring substitute teachers for the 2026–27 school year in Elsa and the surrounding Rio Grande Valley area. Substitute teachers provide classroom coverage at K–12 schools, serve as positive role models, and help foster students’ love of learning. Assignments may also include lunch and recess supervision, hallway monitoring, tutoring, and proctoring during testing season. Teachers can set their own schedules and work up to five days per week, choosing from available assignments. The role offers a path to permanent positions at high-performing schools, and Kokua provides daily support from 6 a.m. to 8 p.m. Pay is up to $145 per day, paid weekly. The posting lists rates of up to $117 per day for teachers with a high school diploma or GED, 48 or more college credits, or an associate degree, and up to $145 per day for teachers with a bachelor’s, master’s, or professional degree. Employment is paid via W-2. Background-check costs are reimbursed after 10 assignments.

Requirements

Have at least one year of experience working with children in any setting, such as a classroom, tutoring, or coaching.
Have completed 48 or more college credit hours.
Feel confident managing a classroom of students.
Be willing to step in where needed, including supervision, tutoring, and testing proctoring.
Pass state and federal background checks.
